Backing Up EasyScan Images and Data
To prevent the loss of retinal images or patient data, we recommend creating a regular backup of your EasyScan data – for example:
- before a software update
- when switching computers
- for secure archiving

Important: EasyScan does not create automatic backups. This must be done manually.
What does EasyScan store?
EasyScan saves the following data on your computer:
EasyScan.db - The main database file: contains patient information, examination records, and login details
TIFF and AVI files - These are the actual retinal images and video recordings
All files are stored in one folder.
How to find this folder
Option A: Find it via EasyScan software
- Open the EasyScan software
- Click the cogwheel icon (bottom left)
- Go to the Database section
- Note or copy the folder path shown under “Current Database”. Example:
C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Local\EasyScan
Option B: Open it directly in Windows
- Press Windows key + R on your keyboard
- Type:
%localappdata%\EasyScan
- Press Enter. This opens the correct folder
How to back up your data (step-by-step)
Before starting: Please close the EasyScan software on all devices. This ensures that all files are copied safely.
- Open the EasyScan folder (as described above)
- Right-click the folder name (e.g. "EasyScan") in the top bar
- Select “Copy”
- Navigate to your backup location – e.g. a USB stick, external hard drive, or network folder
- Right-click in an empty space and choose “Paste”
Your backup is now complete.
Where should I save the backup?
Choose a location outside your computer, such as:
- a USB memory stick
- an external hard drive
- a shared network folder
- a cloud service (only if GDPR-compliant)
When should I back up?
- Regularly – e.g. every week or every working day
- Before any EasyScan software update
- Before replacing or upgrading your PC
- Before reinstalling EasyScan
